Art Classes Available for Students
in Grades 7-9
Art
1
Open to: 7, 8, 9
One Year Course
Prerequisite: None
Content: Students will be introduced to several media and techniques of art
such as drawing, painting, printmaking, calligraphy, sculpture, computer graphics,
etc. The elements and principles of design will be emphasized and students
will study various art movements, artists, artworks, and cultures.
$18 materials cost
Art 2
Open to: 8, 9
One Year Course
Prerequisite: Art 1 or Instructor Approval
Content: Students will further develop skills by creating art using a variety
of media and techniques (such as drawing, painting, printmaking, calligraphy,
sculpture, computer graphics, etc.) and the intentional selection of elements
and principles of design to communicate an idea. Visual literacy and perception
skills will continue to develop with the historical and cultural learning of
art.
$18 materials cost
Art 3
Open to: 9
One Year Course
Prerequisite: Art 1 & Art 2 or Instructor Approval
Content: Students will expand their understanding of the elements and principles
of design as they explore a more varied and individually structured curriculum.
Techniques in a variety of mediums will be developed as the student learns
about aesthetics and critiquing of art forms created by themselves and others.
Portfolios are created for managing and submitting artwork for exhibit.

Arts & Crafts
Open to: 7
One Semester Course
Prerequisite: None
Content: Students will learn basic design, drawing, painting and 3-D skills
along with hands-on experience with many materials. Line, shape, form, value,
color and texture will be demonstrated by incorporating these elements in individual
projects. Principles of design such as balance, emphasis/contrast, variety,
repetition/pattern, movement/rhythm and unity will be incorporated.
$15 materials cost
Creative Crafts 1
Open to: 8, 9
One Semester Course
Prerequisite: None
Content: Students will develop skills while working with a variety of techniques
and media such as ceramics, fibers, jewelry, mosaics, etc. They will recognize
and demonstrate a working knowledge of the elements and principles of design
and learn about cultural and historical significance of media and techniques.
$15 materials cost
Creative Crafts 2
Open to: 8, 9
One Semester Course
Prerequisite: Creative Crafts 1
Content: Students will create on a higher level of sophistication and accomplishment
using more advanced techniques in media such as ceramics, sculpture, leather,
fibers, jewelry and mosaics. $15 materials cost
Beginning Photography
1
Open to: 8, 9
One Semester Course
Prerequisite: None
Content: Students will be introduced to the history and workings of the camera,
equipment, and procedures used in developing and printing of film. Students
will explore creative ways to communicate through photographic compositions
and special techniques of developing and printing. A 35mm camera is required.
$25 materials cost
Beginning Photography
2
Open to: 8, 9
One Semester Course
Prerequisite: Beginning Photography or Instructor Approval
Content: Students will advance from Beginning Photography 1 and focus on depth
of study of the camera, equipment, and procedures used in developing and printing
of film. Students will further explore creative ways to communicate through
photographic compositions and special techniques of developing and printing.
Exploration of digital processes is also included. A 35mm camera is required.
$25 materials cost
(Special projects may carry an additional cost.)
