One thousand thirty-one (1031) members of the class
of 2008 took part in the ACT college entrance testing
program, 142 more than participated in the class of
2007.
Fifty-three percent of the class of 2008 took the
ACT during their time in high school. This participation
rate was sevenpercent higher than that of the class
of 2007, and the highest rate in the past five years.
The average District composite ACT changed for the
first time in five years, going from 22.3 to 22.5.
This average score stands at 1.0 points higher than
the average state score, and 1.4 higher than the average
national score. It is unusual for average scores to
improve when the percentage of students taking the
exam grows like it did from 2007 to 2008. The ACT scoring
scale is from 1 to 36.
There are four subtests on the ACT - English, Math,
Reading, and Science. As has been the case for the
past five years, District students scored well above
the state and national averages on each of the four
subtests.
