How to Enroll Your Student in the Boise School District

Other Options & Programs

  • Concurrent Enrollment
    Concurrent credit for specific courses taught in the Boise School District is available through Boise State University, Northwest Nazarene University and the College of Southern Idaho. Credit is granted by both the high school and the college sponsoring the course. Cost for concurrent credit is the student’s responsibility. See your teacher or school counselor for more information.
  • Correspondence Classes
    Correspondence classes provide students who have unique needs with reasonable opportunities to fulfill both district and state requirements for graduation. While such courses are valuable in assisting some students complete their secondary education, they should be used with prudence and discretion.   • Digital Learning
    The Idaho Digital Learning Academy (IDLA) is a state sponsored, accredited, online virtual school for grades 7 - 12 created through the Idaho State Legislature within the State Department of Education to provide Idaho students with greater access to a diverse assortment of courses. Enrollment is through your school counselor ONLY.
  • Dual Enrollment
    A student of school age who is enrolled in a nonpublic school or a public charter school may dual enroll for District programs and/or activities. Refer to Student Section 3112 District Board Policyfor more information or contact your neighborhood school.
  • English Language Learners
    The Boise School District's English Language Learner program serves K-12 students through a variety of programs. Over 2,200 students speaking 84 languages attend our schools. Elementary programs are located at 11 magnet sites where certified ELL teachers and assistants provide integrated language and content instruction. Secondary students receive support through the Language Academy, ELL Study Skills, in-class support, and sheltered content classes.   • Homeless Students
    Homeless children have the right to a free, appropriate public education. The Boise School District is committed to ensuring that homeless children and youth have access to a quality education in our public schools. Many Boise Schools have a Homeless Education Liaison to assist families in need of information and assistance. All of our schools can help ease the difficulties encountered by homeless families.   • Independent Study
    A program designed to provide qualified Students with learning experiences which would not otherwise be available to them. Eligibility: To qualify for participation a student must show evidence of fulfilling the following requirements:
    • Have demonstrated outstanding scholastic proficiency in the subject area in which the independent work is to be followed;
    • Have exhibited in the selected subject area a degree of specialized interest which cannot be satisfied through enrollment in a regularly-offered program;
    • Have experienced schedule conflicts which cannot be resolved and which limit the student in his/her legitimate request for a suitable course of studies;
    • Have enrolled in six regularly-scheduled classes.

  • Open Enrollment
    Some parents/guardians may wish to enroll their children in a school other than their neighborhood school, from either within or outside of the Boise School District. If you are interested in applying for admission to a school in our District, please follow Open Enrollment application procedures.
  • Transferring in District
    • Inform your current school of the transfer date and the name of the school where you will be enrolling your student.
    • Take your student to the new school for registration. Bring your student's most recent report card, immunization records and a certified birth certificate.
    • The secretary at the new school will request academic files from the previous school.
    • Due to confidentiality regulations, District health forms will be transferred between school nurses. You do not need to request that this be done.
  • Transferring out of the Boise School District( Withdrawing)
    • Officially withdraw at your student's school.
    • Request copies from the school of: transcripts, test scores, immunization records, birth certificate
    • Know the name and address of the school you are withdrawing your student from. You will need that information for registration in other districts/states.
  • Transferring from non-accredited schools
    Students entering from non-accredited programs must provide complete records of their academic history. Students may start school after completing tests and other evaluation measures which are administered by the District for placement purposes. The principal or designee may require students who do not take placement tests to wait up to two school days after applying for enrollment to start attending school.
