Course Description
Open to: Grades 10, 11, 12 One Semester Course
Prerequisite: Photography 3 or Instructor Approval
Content: (Photography 3 and 4) These semester courses are designed
to help the student increase their skills in film processing and
enlarging with the use of photographic chemicals and solutions.
This course is designed to expose the student to advanced instruction
in the use of commercial cameras. The use of studio lights will
be reviewed for commercial photography. Formal portraiture lighting,
as well as electronic strobe are introduced. This course covers
methods of preparing photographic prints for presentation by means
of mounting, matting, framing and spraying. Photographic spotting
and retouching are required. The use of digital cameras will be
explored. Scanning and downloading images, manipulation of images
using Photoshop or other photo software will be presented.
Major Concepts/Content:
The purpose of this program is to prepare students for employment in the field
of commercial photography (89914751).
The program familiarizes individuals with various black and white
film, their processes and printing of black and white film, along
with an emphasis in digital photography. The content includes,
but is not limited to, communication skills, leadership skills,
human relations and employability skills, safe and efficient work
practices, using film, camera, chemicals, photographic paper, laboratory
practices, photographic equipment, computers, scanners, and printers.

This program focuses on broad, transferable skills and stresses
understanding and demonstration of the following elements of the
Commercial Photography industry; planning, management, finance,
technical and product skills, underlying principles of technology,
labor issues, community issues and health, safety, and environmental
issues.
Laboratory Activities
Laboratory activities are an integral part of this program and
provide instruction in the tools, materials, processes and precision
equipment found in general use throughout the photography industry
for the purpose of photographing, processing and presenting photography.
Special Note
The Vocational Industrial Clubs of America, Inc. (Skills USA/VICA),
is the appropriate vocational student organization for providing
leadership training and for reinforcing specific vocational skills.
Vocational Student Organizations, when provided, shall be an
integral part of the vocational instructional program, and
the activities
of such organizations are defined as part of the curriculum.
The cooperative method of instruction may be utilized for this
program. Whenever the cooperative method is offered, the following
is required for each student: a training plan, signed by the student,
teacher and employer which includes instructional objectives and
a list of on-the-job and in-school learning experiences; a work
station which reflects equipment, skills and tasks relevant to
the occupation the student has chosen as a career goal. The student
must receive compensation for work performed.
The outcomes and student performance standards which the handicapped
student must master must be specified in each student's individual
education plan (IEP). Additional credits may be earned when outcomes
and standards are mastered in accordance with subsequent IEPs.
The job title for which the student is being trained must be designated
in the IEP.
