Course Description
Open to: Grades 10, 11, 12 One Semester Course
Prerequisite: Photography 5 or Instructor Approval
Content: (Photography 5 and 6) These are semester courses with a 2 hour block
recommendation. Further development of photographic skills from previous levels
will be emphasized. The students will be expected to work more independently
and be self-motivated. Students will work extensively in both studio and other
environments. Students will explore various methods of presenting their work,
including but not limited to electronic media. They will produce a final portfolio
and mount an exhibition of their work. Employability skills are covered in
this course. An internship or coop work experience is desirable.
Major Concepts/Content:
The purpose of this program is to prepare students for employment in the field
of commercial photography (89914751).
The program familiarizes individuals with various
black and white film, their processes and printing
of black and white film, along with an emphasis in
digital photography. The content includes, but is not
limited to, communication skills, leadership skills,
human relations and employability skills, safe and
efficient work practices, using film, camera, chemicals,
photographic paper, laboratory practices, photographic
equipment, computers, scanners, and printers.

This program focuses on broad, transferable skills and stresses understanding
and demonstration of the following elements of the Commercial Photography industry;
planning, management, finance, technical and product skills, underlying principles
of technology, labor issues, community issues and health, safety, and environmental
issues.
Laboratory Activities
Laboratory activities are an integral part of this program and provide instruction
in the tools, materials, processes and precision equipment found in general
use throughout the photography industry for the purpose of photographing,
processing and presenting photography.
Special Note
The Vocational Industrial Clubs of America, Inc. (Skills USA/VICA), is the
appropriate vocational student organization for providing leadership training
and for reinforcing specific vocational skills. Vocational Student Organizations,
when provided, shall be an integral part of the vocational instructional
program, and the activities of such organizations are defined as part of
the curriculum.
The cooperative method of instruction may be utilized
for this program. Whenever the cooperative method is
offered, the following is required for each student:
a training plan, signed by the student, teacher and
employer which includes instructional objectives and
a list of on-the-job and in-school learning experiences;
a work station which reflects equipment, skills and
tasks relevant to the occupation the student has chosen
as a career goal. The student must receive compensation
for work performed.
The outcomes and student performance standards which
the handicapped student must master must be specified
in each student's individual education plan (IEP).
Additional credits may be earned when outcomes and
standards are mastered in accordance with subsequent
IEPs. The job title for which the student is being
trained must be designated in the IEP.
