Mathematics - Algebra I, Part 1

District Course #0810

Course Description

Open to: 9th graders (first year of a two-year Algebra 1 course)
Prerequisite: C or better in Mathematics 8 Modified, a D in Mathematics 8, and/or instructor/counselor approval
Content: Students will review fundamental arithmetic: addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of fractions to show the properties of the number system. Elementary algebraic concepts will be reinforced; problem solving strategies and applications will be reviewed. This course includes a non-rigorous treatment of Algebra 1 from basic algebraic concepts to factoring simple trinomials. This course is designed for the student who needs additional time to learn the Algebra 1 content.

Note: This is the first year of a two-year Algebra 1 course.
