- Idaho Attorney General Lawrence Wasden and Secretary
of State Ben Ysursa have announced ProtecTeens,
a statewide effort to inform and assist parents regarding
the dangers children face from sexual predators on
the Internet. ProtecTeens includes
a 21-minute video presentation. Call the AG's office
at 334-2400 to request the free CD presentation.
Also on the CD are the following pdf files, duplicated
here:
- In your Internet Explorer browser,
select Tools, then Internet Options. Using the Privacy,
Security and Content tabs you can adjust numerous
settings that will help control how your browser
handles privacy and security issues.
In Foxfire, select Tools, Options and make your choices
under "Security", "Web Features" and "Advanced".
- Check your favorite search engine for filter options
you can set on your computer.
- Google: Go
to google.com and
click the "Preferences" link beside
the search box, look for the Safe-Search Filtering.
- Yahoo: Go to yahoo.com and
click the "Advanced" link beside
the search box, look for SafeSearch Filter.
From there, go to the "Preferences" link
to set filters for all searches.
- Altavista: Go to altavista.com and
click the "Settings" link beside
the FIND button, click on Family Filter.
- Using another search engine? SearchEngineWatch can
help.
- Encourage your children to use "kid friendly" search
engines such as Kids
Yahoo, KidsClick,
and Ask Jeeves Kids.
