Program Description
The Assessment Supervisor develops, coordinates, and
implements all details regarding the training for,
and implementation of, standardized District-wide assessments.
The assessments include National, State, and local
District assessments of students in grades pre-k to
grade 12. The Assessment Supervisor also provides for
the dissemination of assessment results to parents
and schools, acts as a liaison between State agencies,
Federal agencies, and the Boise District, and acts
as a liaison between all internal District parties
to achieve successful assessments of students.
Assessments
National:
- NAEP - National Assessment of Educational
Progress - Grades 4, 8, 12
The NAEP, a.k.a. "the Nation's Report Card," is the only nationally
representative and continuing assessment of what America's students know
and can do. Its two major goals are to measure student achievement and to
report change in performance over time. NAEP provides results for the nation
as a whole and for the states separately. Results are reported by groups
of students only, e.g., by total, by gender, by different racial and ethnic
groups, and by participation in special programs.
State:
- Pre-K IRI Idaho Reading Indicator -
age 4
Assesses the skills that each child should have mastered by the time of testing
and identifies children who may need more intensive support in gaining early
literacy skills.
- IRI - Idaho Reading Indicator – Grades
K-3
Assesses a child's reading skills and indicates whether the child is above,
at or below their reading grade level. The IRI for kindergarten assesses
readiness and phonological awareness. The IRI for 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade
assesses fluency and accuracy of reading skills.
- DWA - Direct Writing Assessment – Grades
5, 7, and 9
Assesses student writing performance. Students are provided a prompt that
they write to for ninety minutes. Fifth grade students write a narrative.
Seventh grade students write an expository essay and ninth grade students
write a 2 part expository.
- DMA - Direct Mathematics Assessment – Grades
4, 6, and 8
A performance test consisting of five mathematical problems for each grade
level. Students are required to answer the first problem and then choose
three of the remaining four problems to answer. Each problem has several
components requiring answers and demonstration of student work.
- IAA - Idaho Alternate Assessment -
qualifying Special Ed students
For students with disabilities who are unable to participate in the general
education statewide assessments. Consists of teacher ratings based on a variety
of performance demonstrations.
- ISAT - Idaho Standards Achievement Tests – Grades
2-10
Administered to all students in grades two through ten. There are three subject
areas that are assessed each fall and spring: reading, language arts, and
mathematics. The ISAT will include science in the spring 2005 for grades
5, 7, and 10
