Each offering listed is available on a credit or
non-credit basis. The credit costs are payable to the
university or college granting the credit. Registration
for college credit will be done at the first session
of the class. After reviewing the course offerings,

registration form and identify the course(s)

filled on a space available basis.

FIRST AID FOR THE CLASSROOM
TEACHER
This course will include a core program of respiratory
emergencies, including CPR techniques and a multimedia
presentation of first aid materials. 1 credit. Appropriate
for all school personnel.

RIGHT RESPONSE
The best crisis to deal with is the one which does
not actually occur! The RIGHT RESPONSE is a training
program for elementary and secondary school staff.
It is a proactive approach to crisis management and
looks at the crisis holistically to prevent future
crisis. Physical interventions are one of the methods
taught as a means of de-escalating a situation. 1

This course is designed for all teachers K-12 and school
support personnel. The primary system taught will be
the (Bornstein) Signed English approach. No Book is

SUPERVISING PARAPROFESSIONALS
This course is designed to provide tools and techniques
that special education teachers can use to facilitate
the utilization of paraprofessionals in order to
make them effective members of the educational team.
Topics include defining the paras’ responsibilities
specific to their own program, designing a specific
plan for training the assistants with whom they work,
conducting a positive and honest post-evaluation
conference, and designing a process for requesting
additional paraprofessional staff. This course is
web-assisted and utilizes Internet communication
as well as face-to-face meetings. 2 credits.

MOVE (MOBILITY OPPORTUNITIES VIA EDUCATION)
MOVE (Mobility Opportunities Via Education) helps children
with disabilities acquire increased independence
in sitting, standing and walking, learn and gain
more mobility, and experience better health and enhanced
personal dignity. Designed for therapists and teachers
that work with students with severe needs, participants
will learn how to implement a program where students
systematically acquire motor skills while engaged
in other activities. In addition, participants will
be provided with tools to measure small increments
of motor skills and translate this data into functional
IEP goals. 1 credit.

SPANISH FOR EDUCATORS
Learn Spanish through best practices in language acquisition.

SPANISH FOR EDUCATORS II
This is a continuation of Spanish for Educators. Learn
Spanish through best practices in language acquisition.
Not only will you acquire skills in a new language
but you will also gain instructional strategies that
will add to your classroom repertoire. Students will
learn vocabulary through activities using Total Physical
Response, sheltered instruction as well as experience
language immersion. Students will build on vocabulary
from Spanish I as well as learn more strategies for
communicating with parents and a more in depth study
of Spanish grammar. This is a beginning level Spanish
class. 1 credit.

PHASE I SIOP®: AN INTRODUCTION
TO SHELTERED INSTRUCTION
Participants will interactively begin exploring sheltered

facilitated by current practitioners and will introduce

COLLBORATION
Participants will come together as reflective practioners.
We will really get our feet with the sheltered instruction
protocol for lesson plan development and collaborative
observations. Participants will have an opportunity
to observe SIOP trained teachers while becoming a more
effective peer observer. Additional practice with language
objectives will be emphasized. Amazing Materials Provided.

APPLICATION OF THE SIOP MODEL
This course will focus on applying components of the
SIOP model to lesson design. Participants will create,
share, and evaluate lessons focused on intentional
use of sheltered instruction strategies. The lessons
will be intentionally created for use in teachers’ current
teaching positions. Note: Please bring lesson planning

PHASE V SIOP®: FOUNDATIONS
OF PEERS COACHING
Participants will explore the foundations of instructional
coaching using the SIOP® as a framework to guide
coaching scenarios. Topics include defining the role
of a peer coach, developing the language of a coach,
observation skills and providing feedback, and strategies
for dealing with challenges. Prerequisites: PHASE
I-IV SIOP®. 1 credit.

SMART Boards 101: Introduction
to Notebook 10
Learn to harness the vast capabilities of your SMARTBOARD
interactive whiteboard. Instructors will quickly
learn the basics of using the board and move to advanced
features that allow for visually engaging integration
into district and state curriculum. Presentations
will be focused on building the participant’s
skills using SmartBoard and promoting the integration
of technology into their teaching using the latest
software, Notebook version 10. Participants
must have access to a Smartboard. 1 credit.

LEARNING SCRATCH
Kids love to make computers do what they want. Scratch
is programming language created with young people
(8 to 16 year olds) in mind. This free program created
by M.I.T. allows students to create stories, animations,
simple games, music and art that will introduce and
interest them in computer programming. Learn how
to use the program, access and upload programs on
the Scratch website, create projects you can use
in class, and excite your students about computer
science. It’s a lot of fun and no previous
programming experience is necessary. 1 credit
