To help further support professional development at
the building level, we are joining hands with Northwest
Nazarene University in promoting their recently developed Learning
Teams professional development credit program.
Beginning in the 2002-03 school year, individual buildings
may structure a credit option for professional development
activities organized and generated at their building.
These Learning Teams may represent Grade Level,
content area, or topical interests that are aligned
with district and building goals for school improvement.
They are much more flexible then traditional classes
and provide a credit option tailored to your needs.
A few parameters:
- Learning Teams do not have a 15 student
minimum limit.
- Learning Teams still must have an Instructor
of record (typically the principal or staff member
that meets university adjunct requirements).
- Learning Teams do not have a paid instructor.
- Learning Teams need to support the District
and school strategic focus and thus are authorized
by the building principal.
- Learning Teams provide a credit option for
study projects at the inservice rate of $60.00 a
credit. These are official transcripted credits.
Learning Teams Process:
- A principal or faculty member through their principal
will fill out an electronic copy of the 1 page Learning
Teams Contract Form located on the Professional
Development web page.
- The principal or Lead Teacher will complete a
Vita for Adjunct teaching status (simplified format
also found on website).
- The electronic contract application and Vita
must be sent to LeAnn Perry or Stacie Curry by e-mail
or on disc by the building principal authorizing
the team project.
- The Professional Development office will record
and forward the proposal to NNU and they will respond
directly to the principal with the university authorization.
- Registration materials will be supplied by the
District and we will handle the paperwork associated
with that communication.
- Proposed Learning Teams Projects must
still meet traditional university contact hours (15
of contact time and 30 hours of preparation time)
per credit hour.
