What is the first step to becoming
a Substitute Teacher or classified substitute for
the Boise School District (BSD)?
To be considered for a position as a Substitute Teacher,
you must have a bachelor’s degree in any field
OR a Teaching Certificate. In addition, you must complete
a Substitute Applicant
Package. This packets is for all candidates who
are interested in becoming Substitute Teachers or Classified
Substitutes.
Are there any positions I qualify
for without having a Bachelor's degree?
We have many positions for which a Bachelor’s
degree is not necessary, such as: Administrative
Assistant, Office Assistant, Library Assistant, Special
Education Assistant, School Support Assistant, Title
I Tutor, English Language Learner Tutor, Security
Officer and Health Tech. We call these positions classified
positions.
How can I be added to the BSD
Substitute List?
In order to be put on the BSD Substitute List, you
must complete the Substitute Applicant Package,
be fingerprinted, attend a Substitute Orientation and
successfully pass a criminal background investigation.
Once these requirements are met you will be added to
the Substitute List.
What are the advantages of working
as a Substitute for BSD?
As a Substitute for the Boise School District, you
have the ability to work a flexible schedule that
fits your lifestyle. You can choose when
and where you want to work.

What do I need to provide BSD
to become a Substitute?
To become a Substitute Teacher, you must provide a
copy of your transcripts showing you have a
bachelor's degree OR a Teaching Certificate, a completed Applicant
Packet and your identification for the I-9
form in the Applicant Packet. (The forms of ID needed
are on the back of the I-9 form in the Applicant Packet.)
You must also bring your original social security card
for payroll purposes. Applicants for Classified Substitute
positions do not need transcripts.
If I want to be a Substitute
with BSD, where can I get the information?

Do Substitutes receive benefits?
In general, Substitutes do not receive benefits.
What is the daily
pay that I will receive as a Substitute?
I am ready to become a Substitute
for BSD. What is the next step?
Fill out our Substitute
Application Packet. When we fingerprint you we
will also train you on our automated SubFinder Call-in-
System. When your background check is complete and
you have attended the mandatory substitute orientation
you will be able to register on Subfinder. This automated
system will call you between the hours of 5:15 AM
- 1:00 PM for current day jobs and between the hours
of 5:00 - 10:00 PM for future jobs.
