Substitute Information (Certified & Classified)
Current substitutes
need to complete the online application to
be an active substitute for the 2009-10 school
year.
Notice to Current Boise School District “Certified” Substitutes:
If you are currently working as a “certified” substitute
and do not hold or expect to receive a teaching
credential for the 2009-10 SY; please complete
the classified on-line application. Substitutes
that hold or will hold an active teaching certificate
will need to complete the on-line certified application.
During the school year 2009-10 all substitutes
will be able to continue working as a certified
and/or classified substitute if the on-line application
is completed.
The update to the new on-line applications does
not change the job positions that you will be
able to substitute next school year. |

Substitute teaching and/or working as a classified
substitute is a wonderful career for those individuals
interested in working with Boise School District students.
As a substitute, you indicate your interest in the
success of the community education team.
There are occasions when staff must be absent. However,
their work must go on without interruption. Therefore,
when they are unable to serve, substitutes must step
in and make valuable contributions. Substitutes are
a vital part of our total education program.
As a substitute, you have the flexibility to work
on your schedule and receive training.

Application Procedures for
Classified and Certified Substitute Teachers:
All New Applications will be screened
and processed in the order in which they are received.
Preference will be given to applicants with prior teaching
experience, applicants who have completed a student
teaching program and those who have completed a teacher
certification program.
Qualifications:
Certified substitutes will work
as a substitute for the teacher in the classroom.
- Choose the "Certified" Application:
- If you hold a current Idaho Teaching Credential
- If you hold a current Out-of-State Teaching
Credential or have completed the ABCTE Passport
to Teaching Program
Please Know: Applicants with a bachelor’s
degree who are not teacher education majors may be
considered, please fill out the classified application.
Nurse substitute applicants who hold a Pupil Personnel
Certificate for School Nurse please fill out the Certified
Application. You will be required to provide a current
Idaho Nursing License and CPR certification.
Classified substitutes will work
as a substitute in the following positions: Administrative
Assistant, Office Assistant, Library Assistant, Special
Education Assistant, Title One Tutor, English Language
Learner Tutor, School Support Assistant, Security Officer,
Health Technician (must provide a current CPR, and
First Aid card), and Behavior Interventionist.
- Choose the “Classified” Application:
- If you have a Bachelor’s degree (or
higher)
- If you hold an expired Idaho or Out-of –State
Credential
- If you have a high school diploma

Frequently Asked Questions
How can I be added to the BSD
Substitute List?
In order to be put on the BSD Substitute List, you
must complete the On-Line Application, if you meet
our requirements we will contact you for a sub orientation.
At the time of the orientation you will be fingerprinted
(fee is non-refundable if you decide not to pursue
employment as a substitute). We will collect the required
paperwork and identification at that time.
What do I need to provide BSD
to become a Substitute?
You must provide a copy of your transcripts showing
you have a bachelor's degree OR a Teaching Certificate,
a completed on-line application and your identification for
the I-9. You must also bring your original social security
card for payroll purposes, and a non-refundable check
or money order for $40.00 made out to the State Department
of Education for your FBI fingerprints. You will be
required to attend a one and a half hour substitute
orientation. Certified applicants will be required
to attend a three hour teacher training class (no exceptions
allowed).
Do Substitutes receive benefits?
Substitutes do not receive benefits.
This is an on-call, as needed basis position.

We require that you work at least two days a month
