LANGUAGE ARTS - SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL

The Boise District's four senior high schools offer a common array of classes in language arts. Listed below are the required and elective courses at the senior high school level.

GRADE 10

REQUIRED COURSES

  • English 10, 2 semesters, McDougal Littell Language of Literature (1997)
  • Speech, 1 semester* , National Textbook Company Exploring Communication (1996)
  • Technical Reading & Writing, 1 semester*

ELECTIVE COURSES

  • Journalism, 1 or 2 semesters
  • Debate, 1 or 2 semesters
  • Theatre Arts 3, 1 or 2 semesters
  • Reading Improvement, 1 semester, Prentice Hall Be a Better Reader Levels A through H

GRADE 11

REQUIRED COURSES

  • English 11, 2 semesters, Holt-Reinhart & Winston Elements of Literature (2000)
  • Speech, 1 semester*, National Textbook Company Exploring Communication (1996)
  • Technical Reading & Writing, 1 semester*

ELECTIVE COURSES

  • Journalism, 1 or 2 semesters
  • Debate, 1 or 2 semesters
  • Theatre Arts 3, 1 or 2 semesters
  • Creative Writing, 1 or 2 semesters
  • Reading Improvement, 1 semester, Prentice Hall Be a Better Reader Levels A through H

GRADE 12

  • Technical Reading & Writing, 1 semester*

ELECTIVE COURSES

  • Creative Writing, 1 semester
  • Theatre Arts 2, 1 or 2 semesters
  • Journalism, 1 or 2 semesters
  • Reading Improvement, 1 semester, Prentice Hall Be a Better Reader Levels A through H

* The required Technical Reading & Writing and Speech credits may be taken in any semester, grades 9-12. Debate credit can be substituted for Speech credit.
