Support Staff

StaffBecky Woodland, Social Worker
854-4370, ext. 184

As the school social worker, my job is to support the emotional well being of the students of Borah High. I receive referrals from counselors, teachers, parents, and students themselves and deal directly with students on a group or one on one basis. Providing individual counseling or group support is a large part of my job. In addition, I assist students and families struggling with mental health issues, poverty, domestic violence, substance abuse, suicide, etc. by providing referrals to the community and/or crisis intervention. I am part of a wonderful support team at Borah comprised of dedicated counselors, an exceptional psychologist, caring nurse, and motivated administration.

StaffDebbie Hastings, Nurse
854-4370, ext. 115

School nursing is a specialized practice of professional nursing that advances the well being, academic success, and life-long achievement of students. At Borah, I help facilitate positive student responses to normal development; promote health and safety; intervene with actual and potential health problems; provide case management services; and actively collaborate with others to build positive student lifestyles. Children must be healthy to learn and learn to be healthy.

StaffJason Hennig, Psychologist
854-4370, ext. 189

Jason divides his time between Borah High, Whittier Elementary and Highland Elementary. At Borah he spends his time working collaboratively with students, teachers, and parents to provide services in the areas of consultation, assessment, intervention, prevention, and education.

He uses a variety of techniques to evaluate academic skills, learning aptitude, personal and emotional development, social skills, attention disorders, and eligibility for special services. He also provides psychological counseling for students and families assisting with learning and adjustment issues, both individually and in groups.

StaffJosh Ritchie, Transition Counselor
890-7945 – cell phone

Although I work for Mountain Cove and Fort Boise I spend most of my time at Borah. I work with students who are not finding success at Borah, South Junior High, or West Junior High and help them transition to one of the district's alternative schools. Most of the students I work with need to make up credits they lost because of attendance, failing classes, or moving into the district in the middle of a semester.

I also track students who drop out of school. I make reports on each of these students listing why they dropped out, what their home situation is, and what their future plans are. They receive a phone call from me to find out what their needs are and to help get them back into school or get a GED.

This job is new for me after eleven years working in college admissions and financial aid.
