What is Accelerated Reader?
Accelerated Reader is a reading enhancement program that enables
teachers to validate a student's reading practice.
How the program works:
Students are given a Star Reading Test, which is a diagnostic
reading assessment tool. From the results of this test, teachers
are provided with a reading range for each student. This enables
students to choose books from the library that they will have
success reading.
After a student reads a book, the student takes a computerized
test. Depending on the length and level of the book, students
will answer from 5 to 20 questions. At the end of each test,
a report is printed. The report lets the student and teacher
know immediately how the student is progressing. Students are
always encouraged to share their reports with the librarian
and to discuss the book with her.
