 WHAT IS ACCELERATED READER
Accelerated
Reader is a reading enhancement program.Cynthia Mann has been
using the program since 1996. We have seen much success with
this program. Students are checking out many more books and
reading the books.
HOW THE PROGRAM WORKS
At least twice a year the children are given a Star Reading
Test, which is a diagnostic reading assessment tool. From the
results of this test, students are given a reading range which
enables them to know what range of books to read that will
help them become better readers while still being appropriate
books to read.
After a student reads a book within his/her reading range,
the student takes a computerized test. Depending on the length
and level of the book, there will be from 5 to 20 questions.
At the end of the test, students get a report on their tests.
This report lets the student and teacher know immediately how
the student is progressing.

All books on AR above 4.9 have an orange dot
with the book level listed on the inside cover.
