Students

I have the great fortune to serve as counselor to your children at Garfield Elementary. My role as school counselor gives me the opportunity to be a good listener and help students as they grow and mature through the developmental process in social/emotional skills, academic skills, the discovery of career options and in making safe choices. My door is always open for parent questions and concerns regarding your child’s success in all walks of life. Please feel free to call for an appointment or a phone consultation.

Focus areas:

  • Classroom guidance: As a school counselor, I teach guidance lessons on a bi-weekly basis to all students. The lessons cover the three domains of social/emotional, academic and safe choices.
  • Small groups: These are available for all students who might be faced with a challenging life issue or situation. The group topics include: changing families, friendship and self esteem.
  • Individual work with students: I am honored to be able to provide a safe place for students to share their concerns and feelings. The students are referred to me through parents, teachers or themselves.
  • Parent education: I have taught parenting classes through the Boise Schools Parenting Education Program. Often, I learned as much as my students. I believe that parenting is the grandest profession of all and the most challenging.
  • Parent/staff consultation: I serve as a consultant to parents, teachers and administrators as well as helping with connections to our community resources and agencies.
  • Other: I serve on Garfield’s Problem Solving Team, Evaluation Team and Leadership Team.

Ann Tuthill, M.Ed., L.C.P.C.

Educational background and experience: Bachelors of Music Education and a Master of Education in Counseling. Counseling is my second career for the past sixteen years. I am a licensed counselor as well as a school counselor.

On a sunny day you will find me outside hiking, learning to play golf, or riding tandem bike with my husband.
