The Hawthorne Elementary School counseling program is designed
to meet the needs of all of the children from pre-K to 6th grade.
I am so very fortunate to work in a building with such a fabulous
group of caring adults and hardworking students. I thoroughly
enjoy my job each day providing counseling support to children
and parents through classroom lessons, individual and group sessions
and parenting classes.
Focus areas:
- Classroom Guidance Lessons:
I teach 30 minute lessons covering social and
emotional development, personal safety, and career awareness
in grades K-6. I am scheduled in each classroom twice each month.
- Groups: Groups offer an opportunity for children to learn friendship,
communication, and anger management skills in a supportive setting that in turn
helps students be successful in school. Other groups can help students with
problems related to family changes like divorce, illness, or loss of a loved one.
These groups are offered with parent permission.
- Individual Counseling: I provide a safe and comfortable environment where
children can share their concerns and feelings. I assist students in learning how
to express themselves and their needs in a respectful and positive way so they
will be treated with respect in return. I frequently talk with parents to inform
them of any concerns and to seek permission for continued sessions with their
child. I also refer parents to more extensive counseling opportunities in the
community.
- Parent education: A valuable part of our role as school counselors is to instruct
Parent Education classes. I have taught Nurturing Fathers and Love & Logic.
- Parent/staff consultation:I consult with parents and staff individually and as a
member of our Response to Intervention Team (RTI), Professional
Collaboration Team (PCT), and 504 Team.

I absolutely love working with the kids, staff, and parents at Hawthorne! I feel very lucky to be here. This is my first year and before that, for four years, I was an elementary school counselor in the Meridian School District. I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor and I have my Master’s Degree in School Counseling from Boise State University.
I am a mother to three teenage boys and my husband and I have
been married 20 years. When I’m not here at school, I enjoy spending
time with my family: camping, hiking, skiing, cooking, reading
and just hanging out!
