I
am extremely excited to be working as the school counselor
at the new Grace Jordan Elementary School! I would like to
take this opportunity to introduce myself and the counseling
services at Grace Jordan Elementary. It is my goal to develop
and maintain relationships with all the children enrolled at
our school. If there is an area where your student could benefit
from some additional academic or emotional skills training
please feel free to call me at school or e-mail me about additional
requests: Lindsy Thomas, School Counselor, 854-(5580). Helping
Others to Help Themselves!
Focus areas:
- Classroom guidance: The Grace Jordan Elementary School
counseling program strives to help children by teaching skills
which promote respect for self and others, encourage wise
decision making, and personal support. This will help the
students gain an understanding of the skills needed for a
successful school year.
- Small groups: The Grace Jordan counseling program also
provides small group experiences for students who could benefit
from additional skill training and personal support. These
groups are offered throughout the year and include topics
such as: Friendship Skills, Family Changes, Anger Management,
Grief and Loss, and Finding Your Strengths.
- Individual work with students: A large portion of time
is spent working with individual students to improve their
social skills, discuss feelings, and to empower problem solving
methods.
- Parent education: The asset most families have the largest
control over is support through parent Involvement. I encourage
all parents to maximize this all-important asset through
the parent education programs offered by the counselors in
the Boise School District. Parenting with Love and Logic is offered at Grace Jordan every year. Please contact me
for more information and specific dates.
- Mentoring: The Grace Jordan Counseling program offers
a peer mentoring program that meets with selected students
during and after school, based upon the specific academic
needs of the child.
- Parent/staff consultation: As a school counselor I believe
that conference times with parents and teachers are essential
to an effective counseling/school environment. Please stop
by my office so that I can meet you and answer any questions
about the scholastic process! I enjoy working with parents
and believe it is an essential part of my job.
