An Educational
Alternative for Grades 1 – 3
Available Free of Charge for Boise Public Schools Students

Montessori Program
On March 12, 2007 the Boise School District Board approved
a pilot public Montessori program to be located at Liberty
Elementary School in Southeast Boise. The District opened one
lower elementary (6-8 yrs/1st-2nd grade) classroom in the fall
2007 for the 2007/08 school year. The Montessori program coexists
with the traditional school program and operates on the same
calendar.
The classroom has 25 students, one lead teacher and one
teaching assistant.
For the 2008/09 school year, the existing 1st-2nd grade class
will add 3rd
grade, and a full second lower elementary class will be opened.
The
District plans to add an upper elementary class (10-12 years/4th-6th
grade)
as the program grows. Research is also being conducted as to
the viability
of offering a primary strand for four and five year olds.
Admission to the program
The Montessori program is available by first priority to
students in the Liberty school boundaries. The program population
requires that a majority of the students have prior Montessori
experience. Seats remaining after population with Liberty students
will be filled by a lottery system following the Boise School
District open enrollment policy. The class will be multi-age,
with the goal of equal representation in each age group.
Enrollment
Applicants for the Montessori Program must complete the Boise
School District's Enrollment form and the Liberty Montessori
Enrollment form. Please mail or bring these forms to Liberty
Elementary, 1740 E. Bergeson St., Boise, ID 83706. Applicants
who live outside of the Liberty School boundaries must also
complete the District's Open Enrollment application. Boundary
information can be obtained from our Transportation
and Boundaries Office.
