Homework Policies
Homework: Homework is the practice of skills learned during the day. In order for the student to have an optimal learning experience he or she must do their homework. I usually don't assign homework per se, but any assignment assigned in class that is unfinished at the end of the day is homework. I do try to assign classroom work so students should have some homework every night. Studying the content learned in Social Studies, Science, or practicing problems taught that day in math as a review is helpful and a good way to incorporate study skills into the homework experience. Homework is part of the student's work responsibility. All students are informed when assignments are due and are expected to have them done on time. Study Time: Successful students are usually ones who have a set study time. Even when they don't have homework, they can use their normal homework time to read, study for tests, etc. A set time for study every night will help your child be successful. The important thing is that they develop the study habit. Late/Incomplete/Missing Assignments: Students will be told when assignments are due. It is their responsibility to write any assignments due in their assignment notebook. An assignment board, which shows when assignments are due, is provided to help students keep up on their assignments. It's not intended to take the place of their assignment notebook. Any late/incomplete/missing assignments will be graded "as is". This is done in order to reinforce the importance of doing and keeping up on their assignments. Neatness: All assignments should be the student's best work. Their papers should reflect that they have done their best in all respects. (Neat handwriting, paper isn't torn, well organized, etc.) Absences: When a student is absent, they will be given the number of days they were absent to get the make up work done. (i.e. A student absent 3 days has 3 school days to turn in all of their make up work.) It is their responsibility to find out what assignments they need to make up and to turn them in on time. Any make up assignment(s) a student fails to make up and/or turn in on time is considered a late assignment.
