Lowell Elementary School believes that learning is acquiring knowledge through the process of reasoning, thinking, interacting with others, and actively participating in the tasks and activities. Learning is a continuous process that occurs within the schoolhouse as well as within the community. Learning is interrelated, lifelong, and challenging.

We believe all students have the ability to learn, that they have unique strengths, abilities and learning styles. Students learn best when they see the relevance of the subject matter. Creative problem solving, decision-making, and active participation within an integrated curriculum are key components to the learning process.

We believe the effective learning environment encourages active participation, recognizes mistakes as opportunities to learn and provides respect, dignity, and safety. It offers individuals opportunities to be successful, and provides access to current technology, texts, and curricular support materials. The effective learning environment establishes high expectations for attitude, behavior, and academic achievement. It provides for certain basic values such as respect, dignity, honesty, responsibility, and teamwork to be an integral part while nurturing a positive self-concept of students.

The effective learning environment is built on a partnership of home, school, and community. We encourage and welcome parent participation and the use of patron volunteers. We strive to build bridges of effective communication with the Lowell staff, students, parents, and our patrons. We support the learning of all students and realize extra effort must be made for Lowell’s ELL students who come from countries all over the world.

The vision of Lowell Elementary is for the Lowell educational community to provide a safe, supportive learning environment where all individuals will be accepted, respected, and successful. We support and encourage a safe, orderly environment in which each person is responsible and accountable for his/her own actions.
