The application/referral procedure for the Madison Early Childhood Center is different, depending on whether the referral is from the Boise School District's Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE) program or from Head Start.

ECSE Referral Procedure

Services are available for children with special needs who are from 3 to 5 years old and may have possible problems in one or more of the following areas:

• Self-Help Skills
• Speech
• Language
• Social/Emotional
• Concepts
• Hearing
• Vision
• Motor Skills

Inquiries and referrals to ECSE may be made at neighborhood schools or through the District's Special Education Office. One of the following referral guidelines may apply:

1. Appointments for the district-wide preschool screening will be arranged through Boise School District's Special Education Office 854-4141 or 854-4142 . Screening dates:
   

   August 18, 2008 September 8, 2008 October 6, 2008 November 3, 2008

   December 1, 2008 January 12, 2009 February 9, 2009 March 9, 2009

2. Referrals with previous assessment, diagnosis or current Individual Education Plans may be made to the Special Education Office (854-4147) or neighborhood ECSE (preschool) sites.
3. Referrals are made to neighborhood ECSE sites for individual assessment and/or screening when a district-wide screening is not available within a reasonable time.

Head Start

Children ages 3 to 5 whose families meet Head Start eligibility guidelines are eligible for application to our program. For more information or an application for Head Start please contact our office at 344-9187.
