I am here for your kids and will do anything I can to help
make their
school years a rewarding, positive experience!
Focus areas:
- Classroom guidance: I am in every classroom for 14-16 classroom
lessons throughout the school year. Our curriculum
is listed on the web site.
- Small groups: I offer a variety of groups throughout the
year. They may include study skills, friendship, anger
management, family changes & anxiety.
- Individual work with students: I often work with individual
students that are referred by their classroom teachers, parents
or who self refer for assistance with school or person issues.
- Parent education: I have taught Parent Ed. classes for
15 years and have focused on “Parenting Your Teenagers.” I
encourage you to take a class if you want to get some new
ideas and meet other parents who are in the “same boat”
- Parent/staff consultation: I regularly work with parents
who have concerns about their child’s progress, (academic
or social), home issues, and a host of other concerns. I
will be glad to talk with you and assist you with anything
that I can. I am also our school’s liaison for
homeless education and resources for families that are struggling.
- Other: I meet with new students in grades 1-6 to get to
know them. I display their picture and first names
on a special bulletin board near our lunchroom. Being
new is difficult and I want every student to feel especially
welcomed so I provide a bag of goodies for our “NU2U” students!
Sue Gorczyca, M.Ed.
Educational background and experience: This is my 17th
year as an elementary counselor and my 14th in the Boise district.
I have worked at Koelsch, Mountain View and Shadow Hills Elementary
, and I was in Caldwell at Van Buren Elementary before coming
to Boise. My undergraduate degree is from Miami University
where I received a B.S. degree in Elementary Education and
Learning Disabilities & Behavior Disorders. After working
as a Resource Room teacher, and then as a Kindergarten & First
grade classroom teacher, I received my Masters in Education
from the College of Idaho in School & Community Counseling
and began my career as a school guidance counselor.
I have 2 daughters who are married and live
in California for the time being. Erin is 28, has a new baby,
and
her husband is a Marine pilot stationed out of Camp Pendleton.
He will soon serve a 3rd tour in Iraq . Both of them attended
the University of Idaho. Alison is 25, graduated from Santa
Clara Law School in 2007, and is employed by the firm of
Wilson, Sonsini, Goodrich, and Rosati in Palo Alto. Her husband
works full time while finishing a masters in business. They
both attended Santa Clara as undergrads. I anxiously wait
for them to move back to Boise!
