Counseling

Welcome to Monroe Elementary --
home of the Bobcats and very friendly people!

CounselorPlease allow me to introduce myself and the counseling program at Monroe Elementary. I am Kris Lunstrum, and I look forward to working with Monroe's students, parents and staff. The role of the school counselor is to support all students' growth and awareness in the academic, social, personal and career realms. As the school counselor, I will work together with parents, teachers and staff, and the community to promote the students' ongoing educational success and skills development.

Schedule:
Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday

Focus areas:

  • Classroom guidance: In working with students, I teach bi-weekly guidance lessons in the classroom. These lessons deal with academic success, conflict management, personal safety, substance abuse prevention and career exploration.
  • Small groups: I also provide small group counseling covering a range of topics including stress management, goal setting, changing families, grief and loss and anger management.
  • Individual work with students: I am available as needed for individual, short-term counseling. If you feel that your student may benefit from ongoing counseling, I can provide referrals to communitiy counseling services.
  • Parent education: I teach parent education classes through the Boise School District in the fall and again in the spring. These classes provide new ideas and strategies for parenting in a supportive environment.
  • Mentoring: Monroe Elementary has a long running mentoring program with Idaho Power acting as our partner. The mentoring program allows selected students to connect with adult role models who can provide academic assistance, companionship and positive interaction throughout the school year.
  • Parent/staff consultation: Working with students presents many rewards and challenges to parents and staff alike. I am available to provide consultation for parents and teachers regarding all students.
