US History Assignments Sept 15. to Sept. 19

 

OBJECTIVE:  Compare and contrast early English settlements and governments in North America.

 

Problem: How did the land and the available resources affect the settlement patterns and governing systems of the earliest English settlements?

 

Monday, Sept. 15:   Discuss and turn in Slavery and the Making of America work.  Notes on the economics of the slave trade. 

 

Tuesday, Sept. 16:  Founding of Jamestown notes.  Cast of characters, compare and contrast.  Due Thursday, BOP.

 

Wednesday, Sept. 17:  CONSTITUTION DAY!  Read the selection on the Bill of Rights and create your own amendment to the Constitution.

 

Thursday, Sept. 18:  Discuss and turn in cast of characters. 

 

Friday, Sept. 19:  Letter of Robert Cushman SOAPS.  Questions about the document due Monday BOP

US History Assignments Sept. 22 to Sept. 26

 

OBJECTIVE:  Analyze basis for creation of Plymouth and Massachusetts Bay colonies.  Examine the growth of the 13 colonies. 

 

PROBLEM: During the initial period of development, what caused the development of unique economies in the three regions of the 13 colonies?

 

Monday, Sept. 22:  Turn in SOAPS.  Founding of Plymouth and of the Massachusetts Bay Colony.  Read Chapter 3, section 2 and take notes.  Outline map of 13 colonies.  Due Tuesday BOP.

 

Tuesday, Sept. 23:  Notes on the Southern colonies.  Color and label Southern colonies on map.  Due Wednesday BOP.

 

Wednesday, Sept. 24:  Notes on the Middle colonies.  Color and label Middle colonies on map.  Due Thursday BOP.

 

Thursday, Sept. 25: Notes on the New England colonies.  Color and label New England colonies on map.  Due Friday BOP.  PROGRESS REPORTS GO HOME TO BE SIGNED AND RETURNED FRIDAY for extra credit.

 

Friday, Sept. 26:  Review for test on Wednesday on exploration, European claims and 13 colonies.  Turn map in on Monday.

 

US History Assignments Sept. 29 ~ Oct. 1

 

OBJECTIVES: Review information on the 13 original English colonies.

 

Problem:  How did the 13 colonies evolve into 3 distinct regions and what are the characteristics of each region?

 

Monday, Sept. 29:  Turn in 13 Colonies map.  Continue to review from review sheet.  Study characteristics of Middle Colonies from United Streaming video.

 

Tuesday, Sept. 30:  Continue to review from review sheet.  Study characteristics of Southern Colonies from United Streaming video.

 

Wednesday, Oct. 1:  Test on first peopling of Americas, European exploration, settlement and creation of original 13 English colonies.

 

Thursday and Friday, Oct. 2 and 3 are State In-Service days, and I will be at the Idaho Council for History Education seminar.

 

US History Assignments Oct 6 ~ 7

 

OBJECTIVES:  Determine new American regional characteristics.  Compare and contrast Age of Enlightenment and Great Awakening.

 

Problem:  How did the economy of a region affect  the characteristics of the people living there?

 

Monday, Oct. 6th:  Analyze test results.  Complete test corrections.  Begin work of regional economies chart from Chapter 4.  Due Wednesday, BOP.

 

Tuesday, Oct. 7th:  Complete regional economies chart.  Due Weds. BOP.  Choose one saying of Benjamin Franklin's for each of the four regions and describe why you think that saying expresses the characteristics of the region.  Due Weds. BOP.

 

Wednesday, Oct. 8th:  Notes of Age of Enlightenment, Benjamin Franklin and John Locke.

 

Thursday, Oct. 9th:  Notes of Great Awakening and Jonathan Edwards.  Read and discuss sermon excerpt from "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God."

 

Friday, Oct. 10th:  Team Day ~ October Skies.
