OBJECTIVES:  Examine the role Benjamin Franklin played in shaping the American identity.  Focus on the French and Indian War and its effect on the American identity.

PROBLEM:  How did the growth and development of the 13 colonies lead to the end of England's salutary neglect of the colonies?

Friday, Oct. 17:  Create French and Indian War booklet.  Due Monday BOP.

US History October 20 ~ October 24

 OBJECTIVE:  Examine the road to the American Revolution and analyze the justification for war.

 PROBLEM:  The split between the colonies and Britain can be seen as a struggle for power , a struggle for liberty, a struggle for equality, or a combination of the three.

 Monday, Oct. 20th:  Define power, liberty and equality and determine what it might have meant to the colonists in 1763. 

 Tuesday, Oct. 21st: Take notes on the Road to Revolution, 1763 to 1766.  Read Chapter 6, section 1 and explain the importance of the terms and names on page 159.

 Wednesday, Oct. 22nd Take notes on the Road to Revolution, 1766 to 1775.  Read Chapter 6, section 2 and explain why Samuel Adams and John Adams were so important to the historic events during this time period.  Due Thursday BOP.

 Thursday, Oct. 23rd Read varying accounts of the Boston Massacre and complete guided reading.  Due Friday BOP.

 Friday, Oct. 24th:  Evaluate the power, liberty and equality aspects of the Road to Revolution guide.  Compare your answers with a partners.  Homework:  Complete EOC Study Guide for essay exam on Tuesday, Oct. 28.  Guide due BOP Tuesday, Oct. 28.

Tuesday, Oct. 28: Turn in study sheet.  Write timed EOC essay.

Wednesday, Oct. 29:  Take notes on the First Continental Congress, based on HBO's John Adams.

Thursday, Oct. 30:  Notes on Lexington, Concord and Bunker Hill.

Friday, Oct. 31:  Article on George Washington.

 OBJECTIVE:  Read and analyze the Declaration of Independence

 PROBLEM:  What type of revolution WAS this?  Social, political, economic?  Who gained power, liberty of equality, and who LOST?

 Monday, Nov. 3:  Watch 1776 and determine why Thomas Jefferson was selected to write the Declaration.

 Tuesday, Nov. 4:  Read the Declaration of Independence and analyze the goal of the Declaration.  Answer questions 1 and 2.

 Wednesday, Nov. 5:  Watch 1776 and answer questions 3, 4 and 5.

Thursday, Nov. 6:  Watch 1776 and answer questions 6, 7 and 8.  Due Monday, Nov. 10.

OBJECTIVES: Determine where, how and why the middle battles of the Revolution were fought in the Mid Atlantic states.

 PROBLEM:  Was the American Revolution primarily a social, political or economic revolution?  Who gained power, liberty or equality from the Revolution?  Who lost?

 Monday, Nov. 10:  Read and take notes on Chapter 7, section 1, page 192.

 Tuesday, Nov. 11:  Notes on the strategies of the American Revolution and on the Mid Atlantic battles. 

 Wednesday, Nov.12:  Read selection from Common Sense and take notes on Thomas Paine.

 Thursday, Nov. 13:  Video on Benedict Arnold.  Study guide due EOP.

 Friday, Nov. 14: Notes on the Southern battles of the American Revolution.  Read Chapter 7 section 2 and take notes.  Test next Tuesday on the Steps to the Revolution and on the Revolution.

OBJECTIVES:  Consider the effect of the American Revolution on Native Americans, African Americans, women and children.  Study for test.

Wednesday, Nov. 19:  Test on the Steps to the Revolution and the Revolution.

Thursday, Nov. 20:  Journal write 5 paragraph essay on the role the desire for power, equality and liberty played in the American Revolution.  Due Friday BOP.

Friday, Nov. 21:  Peer review journal write.  Discuss essential question regarding the role power played in creating the new government.
