Welcome to Accelerated Geometry. This is a rigorous math course in which we will explore geometry topics such as: Congruent triangles, parallel lines, polygons, right triangles, trigonometry, circles, surface area, volume, lines in space, and of course mathematical proofs. Geometry is used daily by engineers, architects, electricians, machinists, pilots, homebuilders, and teachers, just to name a few.
Homework will be required and is essential for success in this accelerated class. As your teacher it will be my responsibility to provide instruction and a classroom environment in which learning can take place. As accelerated students, it will be your responsibility to complete your assignments on time, prepare for tests, ask questions, and come in for help if necessary. I will be available for extra help before school (7:20), during break, and after school.
Grades will be determined by the points you earn from the following:
Tests and Quizzes 89.5 < A <100%
Homework Completion 79.5 < B < 89.5
Spiral Notebook 69.5 < C < 79.5
Agenda 59.5 < D < 69.5
Team Projects F < 59.5
Daily Homework assignments are each worth 4 point. Students earn 4 out of 4 for completing all problems and showing their work on the homework paper. If a few to several problems are unanswered or if not enough work is shown the student will earn a 3 out of 4. Assignments that are only half done will earn 2 out of 4. Late papers will receive 2 points.
Student grades will be determined by a total points earned divided by total points possible. The largest amount of points earned will come from tests and quizzes.
Tests will be given after each chapter and there will be a final exam at the end of each semester. Retakes will be available for one week after each test. They will be more difficult than the first and 70% is the maximum grade.
There will be two main rules. RESPECT ONE ANOTHER. A few examples: Pay attention to the speaker, listen to each other, follow instructions, do your best, make positive contributions, be a team player, show dignity, be honest, and value one another.
Second, BE RESPONSIBLE. For your actions, your words, your assignments, your learning, your grade, and to bring your materials to class each day: book, agenda, spiral notebook, pencil and RED pen.
