FROM THE COUNSELOR THIS WEEK:
I will begin to include notes from my desk for you to consider while our teams
give you all this great information, I will pass on some FYI's also!
1. During ISAT's I met with every student to discuss his/her progress report and
a general check in with all. The 9th grade year is starting off well! If you
have a concern about grades and/or performance, please contact me to schedule a
parent, student, and team meeting during our team time.
2. Reminder - If you are seeing missing work or ???the homework you are seeing
at home - here are some resources for assisting your child with this process at
home:
Step one: Log on to the north website and find the Teachers Website under
FACULTY & STAFF icon. This will give you the agenda and expectations. You can
cross reference this information with your child's agenda to make sure this
information is getting recorded in the tracker.
Step two: Log on to PARENT CONNECT - follow the instruction detailed on the
North Webpage under PARENT CONNECT -- you must use the "ASSIGNMENT" pencil and
then click the "SCHEDULE" button to get to the live gradebooks -- if you are
hitting the "GRADES" pencil, you are not getting to the most up-to date grade
info -- If you have questions beyond what it detailed on the web, contact me on
the phone or Julie McCabe in the front office. Remember - this is not just for
you!! it is also STUDENT CONNECT :) -- yes, have your child connect into this!
Step three: Setting a place and time to do homework is best and supports a
predictable routine, good study habits, and an "expected "in your home.
If you have any questions with this -- let me or the team/teacher know and we
would be happy to assist.
3. Parent/Teacher Conferences are coming up - details on the North website at
http://www.boiseschools.org/schools/north/ please plan on attending and visiting
with every teacher -- this is your only opportunity to do this for the year and
gives you a time to check in on every class. We look forward to visiting with
you about your student -- if more time is needed than what we have that evening,
we can schedule a follow up time. Check your mail for information regarding
PTConferences.
4. Many students have come to see me with an "invite" from a scholarship company
called Edifi-College Financial Aid Services. There is no-cost for your initial
meeting and if they are going to do this for free - great! If they want some $$
after the initial meeting, I would be cautious. All the scholarship information
and financial aid information will be provided to you through the BOISE HIGH
Career Counselor and you have access to him, his knowledge, his guidance and
resources --- for free. If you have ??about this opportunity, email me and I can
help guide you through this.
5. I will be going into the classroom the next few weeks and presenting lessons
on: "C-Core and GPA" - having students understand graduation requirements and
calculating GPA and CCore; "Taking Risks" - discussing positive and negative
Risks.
