Week of November 23 — November 25

Monday:

Happy Thanksgiving!

Quiz: Kinetic Energy, Potential Energy, Forms of Energy (S.M.E.N.C.H.)

WS: Temperature and Heat Transfer

Tuesday:

Notes: Temperature and Heat Transfer

Wednesday

Demonstrations of heat Transfer

Thursday:

Eating

Friday

Recovering on the couch

Week of November 16 — November 20

Monday:

Take-Home Lab assigned—Due Friday

Students picked a take home lab to do. Labs dealt mostly with Newton’s laws, Gravity, and Energy conversion (all required aluminum cans.

Notes: Types of Energy, Energy conversions, Conservation of Energy, Kinetic Energy, and Potential Energy.

WS: Types of Energy Review

Tuesday:

Lab: Energy Types (SMENCH)

Wednesday

Review Lab on Energy

Notes: Kinetic and Potential Energy

Thursday:

WS: KE and PE

Friday

Take-Home lab due

Demostrations: KE and PE

Week of November 9 — November 13

Monday:

Mini Question from last week: Birds in a semi?

If a bird is flying, it will weigh exactly the same as a bird sitting. In order to fly a bird must push down with a force equal to the weight of the bird (Newton’s 3rd Law). This force is transferred to the air, and ultimately to the floor of the truck; therefore, the birds are pushing on the truck floor one way or the other (just thought you might want to know).

Lab: Pendulum Factors

EOC Lab Write-up on Wednesday

Tuesday:

Lab: Catapult Lab data collection (EOC)

Wednesday

Lab: Formal Lab Write-up of the Catapult Lab data

Students take only the data form the Catapult Lab and create an entire lab write-up, including all the steps of a lab, data, graphs, and conclusion. (sounds like fun to me)

Thursday:

Notes: Work and Power

Friday

Notes: Types of Energy

Week of November 2—November 6

Monday:

Mini Question: Birds in a semi? If a bird is flying, does it weigh less than a bird sitting? Handwritten, no research needed, but an expert opinion is required. Due Wednesday.

Quiz: Wednesday—Gravity and Newton’s 3 Laws of Motion

Parent / Teacher Conferences Wednesday and Thursday

Notes: Newton’s 3rd Law

Tuesday:

Review of Gravity and Newton’s laws

Newton Cartoons

Wednesday

Quiz: Gravity and Newton’s 3 Laws of Motion

Thursday:

Lab: Review for EOC Lab write-up

Friday

Off

Week of October 26—30

Monday:

No Mystery Question this week.

MQ: Answer from last week: How much would you weigh at the center of the Earth You would weigh zero. Half of the mass is above you and half is below you, so you would be pulled equally in both directions; therefore, would be weightless.

Most of your experts did a heck of a job getting it right. And to answer a couple of comments: I know it would be too hot for anyone to care, and It would only be a good diet plan if you didn’t come back to the surface.

Notes and Demos: Gravity

Tuesday:

Notes and Demos: Gravity

Wednesday

Newton’s 1st Law of Motion

Thursday:

Newton’s 2nd Law of Motion

Friday

Lab: Newton’s Laws

Week of October 19—October 23

Monday:

MQ: How much would you weigh at the center of the Earth (assuming you could build a tunnel though the Earth)  Due Friday

Quiz: Velocity and Acceleration

Gravity introduction

Tuesday:

Notes: Gravity

Wednesday

Lab: Gravity (1st half)

Thursday:

Lab: Gravity (2nd half)

Friday

Mystery Questions Due! (see Monday)

Lab: Terminal Velocity w/ Motion Probes

Week of October 12—October 16

Monday:

Notes: Speed, Velocity, Acceleration

Finish Lab Write-up

Quiz: Friday

Tuesday:

Lab: Computer Simulation

Wednesday

Acceleration Notes

WS: Acceleration

Thursday:

Review: Speed, Acceleration

Review for quiz

Friday

Quiz: Speed, Acceleration

OOPS! Moving it to Monday, too many kids out sick to cover the information adequately.
