Teaming is the way we schedule teachers and students
at North. This reorganization of the school into grade level teams
originated from the desire of teachers and parents to better meet
students' developmental needs and to improve the transition from
elementary to high school. Students are divided into grade level
teams for their core classes. These core classes include:
7th Grade: English, Reading, World Studies,
Mathematics, Life Science/Physical Education. 8th
Grade: English, World Studies, Earth Science,
Mathematics, Health/ Physical Education 9th
Grade: English, United States History,
Mathematics, Physical Science We have learned that Teaming for Success allows for
more positive teacher/student and teacher/parent interaction. This system does not allow for a great deal
of flexibility in teacher choice. Students are expected to remain
in electives they have chosen during registration.
What do parents and teachers say about teaming?
"The interaction with the team, consistency, and communication with
parents has been great" - Parent
"Teaming provides the opportunity to discuss student issues with
other teachers and the chance to have counselors and parents there. .
.it helps to have everyone working together to find solutions." -
Teacher
"I like knowing the teachers and have been impressed the teachers
really know my child. Teaming made the transition into junior high not
so huge and dramatic as it was for my other children." - Parent
"Teaming promotes reciprocal expertise because we meet each day to
discuss interdisciplinary curriculum and student progress." - Teacher
