An overview of
our Accelerated Reading Program
Accelerated Reading is a reading
enhancement program. Students at Pierce Park are checking out
and reading more books. Students are given a STAR test which
is a diagnostic reading assessment tool. This establishes an
individual reading range that helps the child choose a book
that can be successfully read. After the student reads the book,
he/she goes to the computer and takes a reading test on that
book. There can be from five to twenty questions on a test.
At the end of the test, students get a report to show teachers.
It is a very useful measure of reading and comprehension progress. This file will show you the Accelerated
Reader tests that we have at Pierce Park. Check those books
at home. You may have a great book that your child could read
and test on this week. (Thank you PTO and those who supported
our book fair. That is how we purchase the Accelerated Reader
tests.)
