Welcome , Pierce Park Panthers Families!
READING IS AN
ADVENTURE!!
February is a very busy month for
reading. We have read about groundhogs, Chinese New Year,
Valentine's Day, all of our presidents for President's Day, lots of Dr.
Seuss books for Read Across America, and our Newbery and Caldecott
winning books. A wonderful writer from Montana, Ben Mikaelson
will be with us on Friday, February 29th for an assembly and State
Representative, Les Bock will be reading Dr. Seuss books to us in the
library that afternoon. Our Mayor Beiter will read Dr. Seuss
books to us on Monday afternoon, March 3rd. All of these guests
have a passion for reading as do Pierce Park Students!
Our Spring book fair will be the week before spring
break. The Caldecott book will be on sale there as well as some
of Ben Mikaelson's books. They can be pre-ordered if you wish to
be certain to have a copy. Please set aside the night of
Thursday, March 20th to see the art your children drew, then stop in at
the book fair. Original art work by Pierce Park students!!!
It will be up in the gym the week of the 21-25th so if you can't make
it in the evening, stop by before or after school and enjoy the art and
the book fair. It's a great time to get a few books to entertain
yourself or your child during spring break.
Rick Riordon's third book is out. It's
called "Titan's Curse". It is very popular in our library as is
"The Inventionn of Hugo Cabret" by Brian Selznick and the Warrior
Books by Hunter. A couple of new picture books attracting our
students attention are Urbanovic's books, "Duck Soup" and "Duck
at the Door".
Keep your eyes open to the great things
you see around you.. Get interested in what you love and
do some research about it. When did Little League begin and by
whom and where? How many teams are in the Boise Valley? Who
sponsors the teams? Write "Thank You's" to the companies!
What kind of bug is that on the drive? What does it eat?
What star is that in the sky? Is it a star or a planet? You can
have access to some great research through LILI datbases, World Book on
line, and United Streaming. Talk to your child's teacher or let
me know if you would use these.
