Riverglen Junior High School

Computer Lab 216/217 Ground Rules

1.     No food, drink, or gum in the computer lab.

2.     Be careful about cords hanging down under the tables. If you see one that is out of place notify your teacher.

3.     Use good typing posture.

4.     Chairs are for sitting, not for commuting.

5.     Do not touch monitor screens. They smudge very easily.

6.     Try to figure out a problem on your own. Carefully read any written directions that were given to you. Try reading the online help. Ask the students next to you for help. Lastly, ask the teacher.

7.     During instruction time important directions are given or discussion is taking place. Students should not be using the computer during discussion time. Never turn monitors off.

8.      Every time a disk or flash drive is used at school, it must first be scanned using Norton AntiVirus. Ask for help if you are not sure how to do this.

9.     Teacher permission is needed to download anything on to your computer. If a webpage says that it needs to install something to continue ask your teacher for help.

10.       A student should never install a program on a computer. This includes Fonts, Cursors, Games, etc.

11.       Video games are allowed only under very special conditions. Unless you have specific permission from your teacher, you may not play video games in class.

12.       Do not open and close the CD drive.

13.       Use soft touch on the keyboards.

14.       Use only programs that you have been given instruction on using. Do not navigate to drives or folders where you have no business.

15.       Don’t change wallpaper, mouse pointer or screensavers. Do not move icons from their original locations.

16.       At the end of class, put any papers used for lessons on the clipboard. Push in chairs and throw away scrap paper. Recycle paper whenever possible.

17.       Follow Internet and email guidelines as given in the Acceptable Use Policy, found in your Agenda.
