Elementary Teacher Interns


Parenting & Child Development
Open to:
10, 11 & 12
Prerequisite: None

This is a one (1) semester class (Borah High class is year long (2 semesters) and one class hour a day that is usually taken in the 10th grade but is open to 11th  & 12th graders. The class is taught at the student’s home high school. Parenting & Child Development class explores parenting skills through interaction with children. Students will visit local preschool and day care facilities. Students have the opportunity to interact during preschool activities and observe at day care facilities.

Elementary Teacher Intern I
Open to:
11 & 12
Length: Year long, two (2) hour block
Prerequisite: Application & Child Development strongly suggested

Students are placed on-site at local elementary schools. Initial training and emphasis is on reading and tutor training. Interns meet on a regular basis which will provide students with educational information for their placements. The course has been designed to prepare students to: demonstrate professionalism, consider teaching as a career choice, and organize and lead activities that stimulate physical, emotional, intellectual, and social growth. Students provide their own transportation.

Elementary Teacher Intern II
Open to:
12
Length: Year long, two (2) hour block
Prerequisite: Application, Elementary Teacher Intern I, Instructor Approval

Students will have the opportunity to further explore the field of education as a career. Students will participate as “Enrichment Room” tutors in designated elementary schools. Students will tutor in reading and math and work with classroom teachers. Students provide their own transportation.
