Invent A Machine

There are five tasks for you to complete:

1. Gather information about simple machines. 
2. Invent a machine that will make your employer's work easier. 
3. Create a picture and model of your invention.
4. Write a sales pitch in order to sell your product to your classmates.

5. Present your invention.

Task 1 - Gather Information About Simple Machines

Before developing your invention, research the six simple machines: 

• lever
• pulley
• wedge
• wheel and axle
• inclined plane
• screw

After you have filled out the info. sheet and printed it,  you're ready for Task 2! 

Task 2 - Invent A Machine. 

YOU'RE HIRED!

1.  Choose who you would like to work for:

2.  Work as a group to BRAINSTORM ideas for a new machine.

• The machine should help the person by making their job easier.
• The machine should be made up of many different simple machines.
• Invent a totally new machine or improve something that already exists.
• Be Creative!

3.  After you've brainstormed, choose the one that you will invent.  

Once you've chosen the machine you'll design you're ready for Task 3.

Task 3 - Create a Picture and Model

1.  Draw a detailed picture of your invention. 

        Include:

• The TITLE of the invention.

• A PICTURE of the invention.

• LABEL all of the simple machines that are in your invention.

• COLOR how it will look in real life.

2.  Create a 3-D model of your invention.

• Use any materials available to you.

• Include as many details of your invention as possible.

• The model should be able to show people how it works.

(Hint: The more realistic your model is,

the more likely people will be to want to buy it.)

After your picture and model are complete, you're ready for Task 4.

Task 4 - Write a Sales Pitch to Sell Your Invention.

1.  In a persuasive paragraph, describe in detail your invention. 

2.  Your goal is to persuade your employer to buy your invention.

3.  Explain what it does, how to use it, and why it'll make their job a breeze! 

You're now ready for the final task!

Task 5 - Present Your Invention

1.  Tell your teacher you are ready to set up a time for you to present.

WOW!  You have finished your very first invention, and have learned so much about the way simple machines work.  Maybe you will become a famous inventor someday!  Perhaps you can develop a machine that will make your homework easier!
