An Overview of Our Accelerated Reader Program
Accelerated Reader is a computer based supplemental reading
program designed to help motivate, monitor and manage student
reading practice.
The classroom teacher sets reading goals for each student
using information from the STAR reading test (a diagnostic reading
assessment tool). This reading test determines a
reading range based on individual performance. This
reading range is designed to assist the student in
selecting appropriate books for their reading ability.
Periodically the reading range is reviewed by the teacher and is
adjusted as needed.
Our library supports the AR program by
purchasing quizzes (using PTA funds and other donations) and
labeling the books for easy access. Library books that
have Accelerated Reader quizzes are marked with blue
AR labels and are color-coded to indicate the reading levels.
These number levels do not necessarily reflect content or
specific grade level. Not all books in our library
have quizzes.
