CALDECOTT MEDAL
The Randolph Caldecott medal is awarded annually
in January by the American Library Association to the
artist of the most distinguished American picture book
for children. It was established in 1938 and is named
for Randolph Caldecott, a 19th century English
illustrator of children's books.

NEWBERY MEDAL
The John Newbery Medal is also given annually by the American
Association. This award is for the most distinguished
contribution to American literature for children. It
was established in 1922 and is named for an 18th century English publisher
and bookseller who published books especially for children.

YOUNG READER'S CHOICE AWARD
This special award is determined by students who
live in the Pacific Northwest who read at least two of
the titles from a list of nominated books and then vote for
their favorite in March.
