SPECIAL YEAR LONG LIBRARY ACTIVITY

One of the activities that we are doing this year is exploring different genres each month so that the students will become familiar with the multitude of literary styles, form and content that are available for their reading pleasure. I hope this will encourage everyone to broaden their reading by sampling a few of these genres.

September   Fantasy    Stories having elements that are impossible such as talking animals and magical powers.

October   Mysteries    Suspenseful stories about a puzzling event that is not solved until the end of the story.

November   Historical  Fiction    Stories with real and invented characters that take place in the  past.

December   Folktales, Fairytales, Fables and Myths   Stories from many different countries, often with a message that were initially passed on by word of mouth.

January   Realistic Fiction   Stories with made up characters that take place in modern time. Often these stories deal with current social situations or concerns.

February   Biography and Autobiography   A biography is a story of a real person's life that is written by another person. An autobiography is written by the subject of the book.

March   Science Fiction   Stories that blend futuristic technology and scientific fact with fiction.

April   Poetry   Written verse that expresses a thought.

May   Non Fiction   Information books based on fact.
