Behavioral & Emotional Difficulties
Our programs for students with behavioral and
emotional difficulties are available upon approval of
IEP teams and area supervisors.
Teachers
regularly manage students with difficult behaviors. At
times a student may exhibit behaviors requiring intervention
strategies usually not utilized in the regular classroom.
The teacher can refer these students to the school multi-disciplinary
team (MDT) for observation, consultation, evaluation
and support.
When personnel have adapted, accommodated and utilized
all services available to them, and the student's behavior
is still interfering with his/her ability to be educated,
a referral to a self-contained program may be appropriate.
Our District has several programs available for students
who are in need of these kinds of services.
- Small group classrooms for students
with behavioral and emotional difficulties, located
in 11 schools.
- ASCENT (Alternative
Students Courageously Exploring New Territory) located
off campus
- Behavior
Interventionists are one-to-one "companions" who
provide behavioral support and intervention in
the classroom and school.
