Transition Programs
STARS Program
STARS (Assisting Students Pre-vocationally
In Reaching Employment goals) is a pre-occupation/life
skills program designed to prepare qualified junior high
special education students for their transition from
school to adult life. The program focuses on career exploration,
development of appropriate work skills and behaviors,
and the development of functional academics.
- For students in 7th, 8th and 9th grades. Students
who return for several years will experience different
activities each year.
- Provides hands-on opportunities for career exploration.
- Handling money, calendar, time and scheduling management,
and personal identification information are examples
of focus skills in our functional academic program.
- Manners, grooming and hygiene, and preparation for
job interviews are some of the components of our pre-vocational
and life skills elements.
Each month students are involved in:
- Pre-vocational activities: Such
as interacting with guest speakers; tours of community
places of employment; and projects such as filling
out applications, job interviewing, and career choices.
- Life skills activities: Videos or
hands-on activities giving students opportunities to
further develop in personal and practical areas such
as manners, time, budgeting, cooking, computer skills
and grooming.
