Transition Programs
STEP ( Student Transition Education
Program)
STEP is a final stepping-stone
from public education to adult life and provides intensive
instruction in four specific areas for students with
disabilities between the ages of 18 and 21:
- Vocational
- Independent living
|
- Personal/social
- Leisure/recreation
|
Transition
programs are not intended to replace high school; instead
they are continuing education opportunities in age
appropriate settings. STEP programs
closely resemble adult experiences that students move
into after completion of traditional high school. The
programs provide a supportive setting to assess and
deal with the difficulties that students encounter
as adults. Special emphasis is placed on making activities
realistic and meaningful.
