We know that families are childrens' first
and most important teachers.
Learning Together Workshops were created
to provide information, training, and materials for
families to help them support
their children academically at home.

During the first year of Learning
Together Workshops,
16 reading workshops were held in Kindergarten. See
test results
- 2005-2006
In our second year, 70 reading workshops
were held in Kindergarten through 6th grade.
62 grade level specific workshops and
8 School-wide workshops were held
- 2006-2007
A total of 78 reading and math workshops
were held in Kindergarten through 6th grade.
61 grade level specific workshops and
17 School-wide workshops were held
Learning Together Workshops are designed to:
- Let parents know there are many ways to be involved
- Empower parents to be part of the educational process
- Focus
on communication between home and school
- Help teachers recognize additional ways parents
can contribute
- Build partnerships between families and school
personnel
Learning Together
Workshops provide:
- Information about what students need to
learn at
each grade level
- Information about state and district testing
- Learning activities based on state standards
- Books, games, and materials for families to take
home and reinforce the skills learned in school
- Dinner or snacks
- Daycare for siblings
- Each
family attending a workshop receives a Learning
Together activity packet to take home
Activity packets are grade-level specific
and include a variety of activities and materials
such as:
- Flash cards
- A book for parents and/or students to read
- Reading or math workbooks
- Learning Games
- White boards, markers
- Board games
- Game pieces, dice, spinners
