Here are a few of the many volunteer opportunities
in our District. If you are interested in volunteering
for one or more of these opportunities, please complete
the Application For Volunteer Service*
and fax or mail it to our office.
Bown
House Looking for Docents
Bown
House is the historical exhibit located on the
grounds of Riverside Elementary that offers students
an opportunity to experience history in a real way.
Docents, dressed in period costumes, guide students
through learning activities related to the history
of the home.
Docents are always needed. If you would like more
information contact Juno Van Ocker at 336-2233.
English
Language Learner Liaisons
Many Boise schools have ELL students. These students
come from cultural and home environments that do not
have English as the primary language. The parents of
ELL students often do not speak English yet desire
to become involved in their children's education.
There are times when teachers and staff could use
a volunteer to help translate and explain assignments,
policies, and help non-English speaker parents become
partners in their children's education.
ELL students come from many different cultures and
language backgrounds including Bosnian, Spanish, Croatian,
Russian, Cambodian, and others. If you are interested
in volunteering please contact our office.
Boise
School Volunteer Curriculum Enhancement
Teachers often enhance their curriculum with outside
speakers or resources. They may ask the school's volunteer
coordinator to help find a speaker or resource. If
you have skills in an area that would enhance curriculum
please visit the Curriculum
Enhancement page for more information and an application.
Project Tutor
The Boise School District Volunteer Service Programs
and Federal Programs combined resources to create a
volunteer tutor program within the Boise School District
entitled Project Tutor. This program will include those
mechanisms which constitute a successful tutoring program
which benefit children through extended reading and
math time. More information.
If you would like to volunteer, download and fill
out the Boise School Volunteer Sign-up
form* and mail or fax it to the Boise School Volunteer
Office.
