Additional Programs

The Boise School District is proud to offer a wide variety of programs to help meet the needs of our students in ways that are most appropriate for them. We recognize that students are unique and have differing capabilities, learning styles and interests. Because of these differences, not all students excel in a traditional classroom environment. Listed here are some additional programs that the District has to help students explore what options work best for them.

Concurrent Enrollment

Concurrent credit for specific courses taught in the Boise School District is available through Boise State University, Northwest Nazarene University and the College of Southern Idaho. Credit is granted by both the high school and the college sponsoring the course. Cost for concurrent credit is the student’s responsibility. Courses must be approved by the area supervisor and the Administrator of Instruction.

Correspondence Courses

Correspondence classes provide students who have unique needs with reasonable opportunities to fulfill both district and state requirements for graduation. The Boise School District allows a maximum of three credits to be earned through correspondence study. Students must obtain approval from their school counselor before registering for any correspondence course. Fee required.

Digital Learning

Students who have not graduated from high school and who meet the requirements outlined in District procedure may be interested in online learning options. Idaho Digital Learning Academy (IDLA) offers courses accepted by the Boise School District. See your school counselor for pre-registration materials.

Dual Enrollment

Students who have not graduated from high school and who meet the requirements of District policy and procedure may enroll in a Boise District program or activity while they are also enrolled in a post-secondary institution, a private, charter, or home school.

English Language Learners

The Boise School District's English Language Learner program serves K-12 students through a variety of programs. Over 2,200 students speaking 84 languages attend our schools. Elementary programs are located at 11 magnet sites where certified ELL teachers and assistants provide integrated language and content instruction. Secondary students receive support through the Language Academy, ELL Study Skills, in-class support, and sheltered content classes. Link to English Language Learners Site.

Homeless Students

Homeless children have the right to a free, appropriate public education. The Boise School District is committed to ensuring that homeless children and youth have access to a quality education in our public schools. Many Boise Schools have a Homeless Education Liaison to assist families in need of information and assistance. All of our schools can help ease the difficulties encountered by homeless families. Montessori Program

On March 12, 2007 the Boise School District Board approved a pilot public Montessori program to be located at Liberty Elementary School in Southeast Boise. The District opened one Lower Elementary classroom (6-9 years/Grades 1-3) in the fall 2007 for the 2007/08 school year. The program grew in the next two years and now consists of two Lower Elementary classrooms and two Upper Elementary classrooms (10-12 years/4th-6th grade). The Montessori program coexists with the traditional school program and operates on the same calendar. Each classroom has approximately 25 students, one lead teacher and one teaching assistant.
