Trustee Appointment Process 2023

The Board of Trustees of the Boise School District is currently in the public process of appointing a new trustee to fill a vacancy on the Board. Beginning Wednesday, July 12, 2023, candidate nominations will be accepted until 5:00 p.m. on Friday, August 11, 2023.

Below is further information about the trustee appointment process.

Trustee Appointment Declaration of Candidacy Application  
A candidate must:
1. File a Declaration of Candidacy; 
2. File a Petition of Candidacy, containing the required five (5) signatures of qualified electors verified with the Boise School District Board Clerk; 
3. Please provide your current resume, Curriculum Vitae, or personal statement including relevant experiences.
4. Answer questions from the Board in writing and/or by personal interview.

Trustee Selection Process
 
  • July 12, 2023 - August 11, 2023: The candidate application process is open and applications are available on this website or in the Clerk of the Board's Office at 8169 W. Victory Road, Boise, ID, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., M-F beginning August 8, 2023). 
  • August 11, 2023: Candidate applications due. Candidate applications must be returned and signed by the applicant in person to the Clerk of the Board no later than 5:00 p.m. on Friday, August 11, 2023. The form must be complete.  All Candidate Applications will be posted below at 5:00 p.m. on August 11, 2023.

  • August 18, 2023: Board Workshop at 12:00 p.m. in the Board Room at the District Services Center, 8169 W. Victory Road for consideration and voting of applicants to interview. The Board identified the following trustee candidate finalists to interview:

  4. Paul Bennion
  • August 21, 2023 - September 1, 2023: Special Board Meeting to be scheduled to interview trustee candidate finalists and select a new Trustee.
  • September 11, 2023: The new Trustee will be officially sworn in at the Regular Board Meeting held at 6:00 p.m. in the Board Room at the District Services Center, 8169 W. Victory Rd.

TIME COMMITMENT:
The Board of Trustees meets monthly on the second Monday of each month (4-5 hours, including preparation).  The Board also meets most months for a Board/Cabinet workshop and/or training (4-5 hours). Trustees also serve on at least two committees that meet once a month (these require a total of 6-10 hours including preparation).  Additional time will be spent on ceremonial invitations, graduations, and school visitations.  Other meetings may be called when necessary for single topics.
