2024-2025 Welcome Letter

Welcome to the 2024-2025 school year.  Information about our food service program, meal prices, and how to apply for meal benefits can be found below.

Free & reduced price meal applications
Students can qualify for free or reduced priced meals by completing a school year 2024-2025 free and reduced price meal application. Eligibility for free and reduced price meals is determined based on your household income and the number of household members (see Eligibility Guidelines and application instructions below). Your student automatically qualifies for free meals (without the need for a meal application) in the following situations:

  • Breakfast is free at all schools.

  • Supper meals are free for children who are enrolled in after-school enrichment programs at Grace Jordan, Hawthorne, Hillcrest, Horizon, Jefferson, Koelsch, Morley Nelson, Taft, Whitney, Whittier, Hillside, and South.
  • Breakfast and lunch is free for students who are directly certified (they receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TAFI), Medicaid (MA) (income dependent), are migrant, foster or enrolled in Head Start, or are certified by a proper liaison as homeless or runaway.

Eligibility guidelines (before deductions)

How to complete a free or reduced price meal application

If you think your household qualifies for free or reduced priced meals, you are encouraged to complete an online meal application. Paper applications are available upon request by contacting the Food & Nutrition Services office. Applications in alternative languages are also available upon request. Please note the following:

  • A meal application is needed each school year. Only 2024-2025 meal applications can be accepted.  All meal applications approved last school year will expire on September 25, 2024, unless a new eligibility determination is made.
  • Meal applications may be submitted at any time during the year.
  • Only one meal application is needed for all children in the household attending the Boise School District.
  • Households must list the name of all household members, each household member’s income, and the source of income.
  • An adult signature is required along with the last 4 digits of the adult’s social security number. If a social security number is not available, indicate that on the meal application.
  • You may include all foster children’s names on a household application with other non-foster children.  Foster children are eligible for school meal benefits. Foster children must be the legal responsibility of the welfare agency or the court.
  • Boise School District Food & Nutrition Services officials will review the meal applications and determine eligibility. Information on the meal application may be subject to verification at any time during the school year.
  • If you do not agree with the District’s decision regarding your meal application or the result of verification, you may discuss it with the Food & Nutrition Services office at the address above. You also have the right to a fair hearing. This can be done by calling or writing to our office (contact information at the top of page one).
  • Once approved, benefits are good for the entire school year.
  • The program MAY share your eligibility information with other District education programs to help them evaluate, fund, or determine benefits for their programs, auditors for program reviews, and law enforcement officials to help them investigate violations of program rules.
  • Note:  WIC participants may be eligible for free or reduced price meals.
