Secondary World Languages

Program Description

French class with Flag of France

The world languages department of the Boise School District provides an opportunity for students to study other languages and cultures. As core subjects in the Humanities area, students may take world language as Humanities or world language credit towards high school graduation. We encourage students to enroll in world languages study for 4 to 5 years between 7th and 12th grades.  Many universities require two years of world language study as an entrance or graduation requirement. Study at the high school level may benefit students, as most universities will extend credit for levels of the language below a student's placement in a university program. Language study can also positively impact students who join the workforce after graduation. Many companies will reward employees who can communicate in a world language.
