Summer 2021 - General Information

In response to the ongoing need for social distancing, the Boise School District Summer School Programs for 2021 have been redesigned to provide instructional opportunities for students even while maintaining safe distancing practices.

Boise School District offers a wide variety of summer school classes for students to enhance their educational experiences. 
Registration begins for Summer 2021 programs in late March, 2021. For detailed information on each of the Summer School options that are available for Boise School District students in Summer 2021, please scroll to the details below.
Each section will be updated as new information is available.

NOTE: On Monday, 
July 5th there will not be classes for any of the summer school programs.

The Alternative Junior High Summer program (location - Frank Church High School):

Boise School District will offer a Junior High Alternative Summer Program, ‘Pathways to Promotion' for eligible at-risk students in 7th through 8th grades.  In Summer 2021, the Alternative Jr High Summer program will be offered as in-person classes that use Boise School District's instructional resources specifically designed for this summer school intervention program. This summer program will offer students an opportunity to develop and strengthen their math and language usage skills. There is no tuition cost for the program. Registration for this summer program will begin in March, 2021 through each student's regular school year school. This program will support students who qualify as at-risk, as well as for English Language Learning students. 
Students participating in the Summer 2021 'Pathways to Promotion' program will attend in-person classes with in-person teachers supporting their progress during the six-week, half-day long program. Curriculum is designed to assist students who have failed or have done poorly in English and or Math classes. Classes are held Tuesday, June 1 - July 9, 2021. Students enrolled in this program must meet the “At- Risk” State qualifications.

Registration: To better support the individual learning needs of our students, students will work with their regular school counselor to complete registration. The counselors will be submitting the registration online so we are able to ensure all students have the courses they need and access to School Bus Transportation. The Hard Copy Registration form can be printed and filled out prior to having your school counselor send this in to register for summer school. This is for Boise School District students who qualify only. The Online Registration Form can be completed here but this is only for at-risk, qualified Boise school District students.

The 2021 Traditional Secondary Summer School (Location - Virtual) offers a variety of classes for students entering grades 7- 12. This program has two 4-week long semesters and students can take up to two classes each semester.

In Summer 2021, Boise School District will offer online courses that access curriculum delivered through a blend of FuelEd curriculum and supplemented with Teacher generated lessons. Student learning is supported by Boise School District teachers who will serve as Teachers of Record and facilitators to the learning. All BSD Grading and Assessment Policies will be followed. Students will access learning from their homes. Courses will include those offered in previous summers to students in grades 7 - 12 such as courses for English, Mathematics, History, Health, PE, Economics, Speech and Critical Literacy. Courses available in the Summer School Program will offer students in grades 9 -12 an opportunity to take up to four credits toward graduation requirements. Courses are also available for students in grades 6 - 8 to earn Junior High credits.

This program has two 4-week semesters:

1st Semester: Tuesday, June 1 - June 25
2nd Semester: June 28 - July 23, 2021 ( Monday, July 5th - Holiday - No School)

Registration: Students may access a copy of the Registration Form for the Traditional Secondary Summer School Program for Summer 2021 from this site starting in late-March 2021, The $35 Registration Fee is being waived for Summer 2021, so students will only be responsible for the tuition portion of costs.

PLEASE REGISTER EARLY. Early registration increases the chances of obtaining a course of their choosing in summer school. The later students register, the less likely they will get the class(es) they need. Registration Form and link for online registration for Summer 2021.

IDLA - Idaho Digital Learning online course options

During Summer 2021, students also have the option to register for online classes through IDLA. 

IDLA courses are available to take for enrichment, advancement, review and even for pursuing a general interest in a subject area.

The 2021 Alternative High School Summer School program (location - West Jr High) is for students in grades 9 -12 who are seeking credit recovery.
This program has two 4-week semesters:

1st Semester: Tuesday, June 1 - June 25
2nd Semester: June 28 - July 23, 2021 (Monday, July 5th - Holiday - No School)

Boise School District's Alternative High School Summer program will offer in-person learning with teacher-led curriculum in each course. Classes may be taken for credit-recovery or course advancement. The Summer Alternative High School classes are supported by Boise School District teachers who will use Boise School District curriculum and in-person learning. Students will access learning while attending in-person classes 5-days per week. Courses will include those offered in previous summers to support the instructional needs of eligible at-risk youth including courses for English, Mathematics, History, Health, PE, Economics, Speech and Critical Literacy.

Registration: To better support our students, we ask each student to reach out to their regular school counselor for registration. The counselors will be submitting the registration online so we are able to ensure all students have registered for the courses that they most need to complete. Graduating Seniors for Summer 2021

The summer graduation ceremony for seniors will tentatively be held as follows: Thursday, July 22nd, 2021.

Elementary Summer School Programs for Summer 2021

The Elementary Summer School programs provide focused intervention for qualifying students for each grade level K-6. Each Elementary Summer Site supports Boise School District students from within their feeder school pattern.  Non-Boise School District students are not able to attend the Boise School District's Elementary Summer programs due to the funding structure of the program.

The Elementary Summer School programs run from June 21 through July 23, with July 5th as a Holiday. The hours are from 9:00 - 12:45, with Breakfast service offered starting from 8:30 AM at each elementary summer school site. The Kinder Prep/Kinder Jump Start class is offered from June 28 through July 23, 2021. 


Registration for the Elementary Summer School programs will be conducted through the child's regular school year school. Registration will begin in late March 2021.

Boise School District will offer an Extended School Year Program for qualified Boise School District students during the 2021 Summer session. 


Student qualification for the Extended School Year Program is determined by the IEP team for each child at their regular Boise School District School during the regular school year. The Summer School Sites for the ESY Programs in Summer 2021 include:
