Return to In-Person Learning Quick-Reference Guide
Public schools play a critical role in the vibrancy, unity and well-being of our community. With a significant portion of students returning to in-person school, please remember that regardless of how different the school day may look, our commitment to the success of our students has not changed -- we will offer a high-quality educational experience while respecting the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Central District Health guidelines.

For a deeper understanding of how we’re putting our beliefs into action, below are links to resources you will find helpful as we move forward with our return to in-person learning.

Phased Return to In-Person Learning Begins September 21, 2020: Boise School District begins phase one of our four phase return to in-person learning. Students in grades PreK-2 and SC/SLC Special Education, will begin this week with an alternating schedule of in-person learning (3 virtual days, 2 in-person days). Learn more…

Pandemic Operation Plans In Place for In-Person Learning: Boise School District will follow our pandemic operation plans as students return to school. These plans have been thoroughly researched and approved by Central District Health and other medical professionals. Our plans include:

Our pandemic operation plans state that face coverings that completely cover the person's nose and mouth are required for all students, staff, and visitors while inside all schools/District facilities, including school buses. Learn more…

Healthcare Professionals & District Administration Panel: On September 16th, Boise School District hosted a panel featuring representatives from local healthcare providers and District Administrators to discuss the District's Pandemic Operations plan. Questions for the panel were submitted by staff. The panel discussion was recorded and can be viewed online.

Changes to Our Health Procedures: Each school within the Boise School District will have two health offices this year. One health office/area will be designated for non-infectious health concerns such as: medication administration, scrapes, bumps, or orthopedic injuries such as sprained ankles. The other health office/area will be used to screen students who show signs of an infectious illness at school such as: a fever, headache, cough, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, congestion, runny nose, or fatigue.

If your student has a symptom of illness at school that has not been previously diagnosed, or discussed with the school, you will be called to pick up your student from school to monitor him/her at home. The student will be kept in the sick health office until he/she is picked up. Please make plans ahead of time to be able to pick up your student within 30 minutes of being called for symptoms of sickness.

Transportation: As part of phase one return to in-person learning, Durham School Services will begin providing student transportation next week on Tuesday, September 22nd, and will continue providing student transportation Tuesday through Friday of each week for busing eligible PreK-2 and SC/SLC Special Education students. Bus schedules are available within the Infinite Campus Parent Portal. Check your Infinite Campus Parent Portal regularly for updated bus schedule information. We ask for your patience as we start new, revised bus routes applicable to phase one. If there are any problems with morning pick-up, please call your school for assistance. Learn more...

Free Meals for All Children: Boise School District’s Food & Nutrition Services will offer free meals to all children 1-18 years of age regardless of eligibility status through December 2020 (or until funding for this program runs out). In order to provide this benefit to our District students, meals must be available to ANY child age 1-18, even children not enrolled in our District. Community members (non-District children) who want meals will be directed to our curbside program. Starting January 2021 the funding for this program will end and we will return to charging for meal services based upon student eligibility status, District enrollment, and school status (Community Eligibility Provision or Provision 2 Breakfast).

Cafeteria Services Provided During In-Person Learning: Per our Food & Nutrition Services Pandemic Plan, we plan to provide our usual cafeteria (and classroom) meal services. Students will be offered breakfast and lunch on the days they attend school in person. Curbside meals are available for students on days they are not attending school in person (see below).

Curbside Meal Services To Continue: We plan to continue offering curbside meal services to all virtual students including Boise Online School students and to non-District children. Starting the week of 9/21/20, it is anticipated that the schedule outlined below will be our permanent curbside meal schedule. Pre-orders will still be accepted for the week of September 21-25 but beyond that we hope to eliminate the need for an order form. Walk-up customers (those without a pre-order) are always welcome. One breakfast and one lunch per child per day (no suppers) will be served at the following locations from 3:30-4:00 pm daily (M-F):

  • Timberline High School - bus loop off of Apple St.
  • North Jr High School - parking lot off of Fort St. outside of cafeteria
  • South Jr High School - front of the building (parent pick-up route)
  • West Jr High School - front of the building (parent pick-up route)
  • Hillside Jr High School - the roundabout outside of the new cafeteria
  • Riverglen Jr High School - front of the building (parent pick-up route)
  • Fairmont Jr High School - parking lot at entrance to school

Supper Program Adjustments: Starting 9/14/20 supper meals will no longer be available curbside. Moving forward, supper meals will only be available after school for our daycare enrolled children or through our community schools & centers once the daycare centers close.

Home Meal Delivery: Home meal delivery service will no longer be provided starting 9/21/20 since students will be returning to school in person.

Air Quality Procedures: In light of the current wildfire smoke that continues to impact our area, we want to take this opportunity to inform you about our Air Quality Procedures that are in place in the Boise School District. Our Air Quality Procedures are designed to keep our students, staff and community safe and well during times of poor air quality. Learn more…
